President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated the Fofalha Gau (RF 1185) lagoon as part of Kunburudhoo in South Ari Atoll, following a proposal from the island’s residents.
The decision was made due to the lack of space and facilities on Kunburudhoo, to provide additional land for economic opportunities and to address the island’s housing challenges.
The change was formalised through Decree No. 28/2025, amending Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 (dated 5 February 2025), which specifies the inhabited islands of the Maldives.
The amendment was made under the authority of the Decentralisation Act (Law No. 7/2010), and the revised list of inhabited islands has been published in the Government Gazette accordingly.
