Farsath appointed chairman of new media commission

Former Secretary General of the Media Council, Mohamed Farsath, has been appointed Chairman of the Media and Broadcasting Commission.
At Monday’s parliamentary sitting, 49 members voted in favour of Farsath’s appointment, while nine members voted against.
Under the Media Control Act, the Parliament holds the authority to appoint the Chairperson of the Commission. Farsath, who was already serving as a member of the Commission, was among three members appointed by Parliament.
Applications for membership representing the media sector in the Commission received limited response. As the number of applicants equalled the available positions, the four media representative seats were filled without a competitive selection process.
