Maldives coast guard has seized a number of Sri Lankan fishing boats that were illegally fishing in the Maldives' territorial waters.

Foreign vessels have been detained while fishing in Maldives in the past. Indian and Sri Lankan boats are among those usually seized. Fishermen caught in this manner are often repatriated.
