Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan, who has been accused of sexual misconduct and corruption, has alleged that some police officers entered false information about him into the police records system.
A letter sent to Parliament’s 241 Committee on Security Services last week alleged that Shifan had engaged in sexual relations with female police officers and spouses of male officers, committed acts of sexual assault, and attempted to influence investigations and frame other officers.
The letter, reportedly submitted on behalf of 11 senior police officers, was leaked to the media on Sunday.
In a letter addressed to Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, Shifan denied the allegations and claimed that his personal record in the Police Professional Standards Command (PSC) database had been altered without authorisation.
According to Shifan, an assistant commissioner made changes to his record in May last year. He said he had reported the matter to police management on 29 May 2023.
“At the same time, it has been discovered that some information about me stored in the PSC system, and other untrue information, were shared with official institutions and media outlets by a person with access to this system on 8 November,” Shifan wrote.
The letter to the 241 Committee also called for an investigation into alleged misconduct by Shifan and suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry. It was accompanied by a detailed report outlining the allegations against both officers.
Neither Shifan nor the Maldives Police Service has issued a formal statement in response to the allegations.
