Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan has been removed from his role as spokesperson for the Maldives Police Service, with Superintendent of Police Arif appointed as his replacement.

The police service confirmed the change on Sunday.

According to the Maldives Police Service, Superintendent Arif will now be responsible for providing information to the media and handling public communications on behalf of the institution.

The reason for Shifan's removal and Arif's appointment has not been disclosed.

The change comes as the police service continues to implement organisational restructuring, including the reassignment of leadership positions across several departments.

Shifan had served as police spokesperson since February 2024.

The latest development follows another personnel change involving Shifan last month. He was appointed Head of the Police Commissioner's Bureau, but that appointment was later withdrawn.

The Maldives Police Service recently announced revisions to its administrative and command structure, stating that the changes were intended to improve management and operational performance.

No further details have been released regarding Shifan's new responsibilities following his removal from the spokesperson role.
