The Addu Magistrate's Court has ordered the closure of a house in Maradhoo over allegations that it was being used to provide drug-related services.

According to Maldives Police Service, the closure order took effect on Sunday and will remain in force for 90 days, or three months.

Police said this is the first closure order issued by the Addu Magistrate's Court under the Narcotics Act against a property alleged to have been used for drug-related activities.

The house is the fourth property in Addu to be closed since amendments to the law introduced provisions allowing premises linked to drug-related services to be shut down.

The three properties previously closed under the law are:

  • A house named Ummeedhu in Maradhoofeydhoo, which was closed on the 15th of last month.

  • A house named Lamigeyaage in Hithadhoo, which was closed on the 8th of last month.

  • One other property previously ordered closed under the amended law.
