A court in Addu on Friday ordered a man arrested in connection with the murder of his brother to be remanded till the end of his trial.
Ahmed Shuaib, 27, Bluestar/Maradhoo-Feydhoo, was killed in a fight with his younger brother in Maradhoo on Wednesday night. Hussain Mawaz, 25, was arrested after he surrendered himself to the police on Thursday.
In a message to the media on Friday, the police said that the court has ordered the suspect to remain in custody till the end of his trial.
The police are yet to reveal much about the murder.
Islanders and councillors have earlier told Atoll Times that:
-
Mawaz got angry when his brother sold his phone to buy drugs
-
On learning about this, he murdered his brother by stabbing him in the chest with a pair of scissors
-
Shuaib collapsed outside their house after he ran out with the injuries
-
Both the brothers have a criminal record of drug peddling
There are also rumours in the island that Mawaz got angry after his brother stole the drugs he was peddling. However, this has not been confirmed yet.
