9 Bangladeshis arrested in Malé on suspicion of drug trafficking

Police have arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals in Malé on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.
The arrests were made during an operation conducted jointly by Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on Tuesday, police said.
As part of the operation, officers searched a guesthouse in Malé, where substances suspected to be drugs were found and seized.
Police identified those arrested as Tohidul Islam, 35; Monir Bepari, 37; Jakir Munshi, 46; Md Abu Zaber Pramanik, 37; Md Usman, 23; Mohammad Bablu Ali, 34; Md Raihan, 32; Afranul Hoq Ashik, 34; and Mohammad Rakib Hossain, 30.
Police did not disclose the type or quantity of the substances seized from the guesthouse.
Following the completion of procedures related to their arrest, all nine suspects were handed over to Maldives Immigration.
Police said the investigation into the suspected drug trafficking operation is continuing.
