Police have decided to conduct a post-mortem examination on an individual found dead in Malé on Wednesday.

The deceased, a Maldivian male, was discovered in the afternoon in an abandoned house identified as G. Fresh Light, located in an alley off Faashanakilege Magu.

The property has previously been searched by police in connection with suspected drug-related activity.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Maldives Police Service said a preliminary external examination of the body did not show signs of physical assault or injuries caused by another party.

Police stated that a forensic examination is required to determine the cause of death, citing the condition of the body, the time elapsed since death and information collected during the investigation.

Arrangements are being made to conduct the autopsy.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that further information will be shared as it becomes available.

An eyewitness at the scene stated that marks were visible on the body and that the individual appeared to have been found in a position consistent with hanging.
