Police said on Saturday that they have arrested a man seen in a video selling drug-suspect items on the road publicly.
In a video that went viral on social media on Friday, a young man wearing a white shirt can be seen selling something that is believed to be drugs in a very open manner on the streets of Male. In the total 40-second video, three people can be seen paying him to buy them. Each ‘customer’ hands him a MVR 100 note. In return, he gives them a packet.
A police spokesman told Atoll Times that the 25-year-old Maldivian man, who was seen selling what appeared to be drugs in the video, was arrested on Friday night.
"He was arrested and produced before the court which remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days today," the spokesperson said.
Further investigation is underway, the spokesperson also said.
There was a lot of public criticism for doing the drug business so openly during the day.Though the police arrested him after the nation saw the scene in the video this time, it has become quite common now.
