A man who had broken into a house in Male during Friday prayers has been found dead in the house.
The 43-year-old man was found unconscious on the ground floor of H. Halhaalamaage on Lonuziyaaraiy Magu on Friday. The matter was reported to the police around 1.20 pm.
Police said in a statement that the man was rushed to ADK Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Police have not given further details, saying that an investigation is underway.
Witnesses said the gate door was locked from the inside when the family returned home after Friday prayers at the mosque. They broke the lock and entered to find a man lying on the ground "without any movement and with foam around his mouth".
"He had fallen, right near the main entrance door. He was laying face down. His face was on the ground and he was bleeding from his forehead," a witness told Atoll Times.
"When we went to Friday prayers, the gate door was unlocked. When we came back home, it was locked from the inside. It was just a short while in between."
Residents of the house told Atoll Times:
-
He had never come to the house before
-
Alleged him of seemingly being a drug addict
-
Alleged he had entered the house at the exact time to either commit burglary or abuse drugs
"Police said he played with electrical boards," a resident said.
Three STELCO employees came to the house and checked the power boards. Police also searched the area where the boards were located and was seen taking items away in evidence bags.
According to some residents of the area and those who found the body, the dead man was the brother of Hussain 'Rabarey' Razeen of H. Hundred Flowers/Male, who was found murdered in Sri Lanka in November 2015.
