The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has deployed its Fire and Rescue Service to pump floodwater from streets in Malé after tidal surges caused flooding in several parts of the capital on Sunday.
Tidal surges began affecting parts of the city early in the afternoon, leading to water accumulating on a number of roads.
Flooding was reported in the Carnival area and along the newly completed section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
The MNDF said fire and rescue personnel are working to pump water from affected areas to reduce flooding and restore normal traffic conditions.
Meanwhile, the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has forecast rain across parts of the country.
The MET Office said sea conditions are expected to be moderate, becoming rough during squalls, with wave heights ranging between two and five feet.
