The remaining unexcavated land reclamation work under the third phase of the Hulhumalé development project has resumed.
The project, managed by Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has been contracted to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC). A total of 63 hectares of land will be reclaimed under the current phase.
HDC previously reported that 23 hectares of land had already been reclaimed as part of Phase III. Work on the remaining section resumed on Monday with the use of a 22,000 cubic metre dredger provided by Boskalis.
President Mohamed Muizzu visited the site on Monday to inspect progress on the project.
Earlier plans for Hulhumalé included the development of an international cruise terminal on the western side of Phase II. According to HDC, several major companies with relevant experience expressed interest when the tender was announced. However, the government later decided to revise the overall master plan for Hulhumalé, redirecting dredging and development priorities.
Since assuming office, the current administration has initiated changes to the master plan for Hulhumalé Phase III to align with new development objectives.
