Police remove news report on MP Husnee relative’s arrest

Police have removed from their website a report on the arrest of a family member of PNC MP and Judicial Service Commission president Husnee Mubarak in a drug-related case.

The police website usually carries information on persons arrested in connection with crime, including drug cases, with brief details of each case. The name of Hassan Nahil, 18, of Roashaneege, N. Manadhoo, who was arrested on Sunday, was removed from the site. Nahil is a relative of Husnee; his mother and Husnee’s father are siblings.

According to information published on the police website before its removal, Nahil was arrested in Hulhumalé. Police patrolling the area reported that he attempted to hide an item in his hand. He was stopped near a bus stop on Nirolhu Magu, where officers searched him and recovered an empty bottle containing suspected drugs. The recovered substance weighed 31.23 grams. Nahil was ordered to be remanded for 30 days.

In response to queries on the removal, police said the report had been taken down “for investigative purposes”. No further information was provided.
