Several connected islands in Addu experienced power outages on Monday following a technical issue with an engine, Fenaka Corporation confirmed.

The outage occurred on Monday morning, affecting electricity supply across the interconnected network in the atoll.

Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah previously stated that a 30MW power project is scheduled to begin before the end of this year.

Last month, President Mohamed Muizzu announced a new initiative aimed at resolving electricity issues in Addu. Under the project:

  • A new 32MW power plant will be established in Hithadhoo.

  • The distribution system will be upgraded.

  • The project is valued at USD 59 million, with Fenaka given 12 years to complete repayment.
