President Mohamed Muizzu said on Saturday that a new power project in Addu City will address electricity supply issues for the next 20 years.
The project was awarded to Definite Solutions during a signing ceremony held at the head office of Fenaka Corporation on Saturday.
The project has an estimated cost of USD 31 million.
Speaking later at a campaign rally organised by the People’s National Congress at Artificial Beach, the president said the agreement includes the development of a 26 megawatt electricity supply system.
According to Muizzu, the project is scheduled to be completed by July next year.
“By July next year, the project will be completed and the electricity problem in Addu will be solved for the next 20 years,” he said.
Addu has experienced electricity supply shortages and power outages in recent days.
The president had earlier said the government would take steps to address the issue.
