Residents of Addu have raised concerns on social media regarding recurring power cuts in recent weeks.

Power outages were reported again on Wednesday morning across the connected islands of Addu City following a fault at the main powerhouse.

According to officials, the interruption was caused by an engine failure at the power station, resulting in a temporary shutdown and disruption to electricity supply in the linked islands.

Residents of Addu have raised concerns on social media regarding recurring power cuts in recent weeks.

Earlier, Mohamed Najah, Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, said a 30-megawatt power project is expected to begin before the end of the year.

Last month, President Mohamed Muizzu announced a project aimed at addressing electricity supply issues in Addu.

Under the plan, a 32-megawatt power plant will be established in Hithadhoo, and the distribution system will be upgraded. The project is valued at USD 59 million, with Fenaka given a 12-year repayment period.

Authorities have not provided further details on the latest outage.
