Finance Minister Moosa Zameer underwent an elective surgical procedure on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Finance.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the procedure was planned in advance and carried out as part of routine medical care.

“The procedure was completed successfully, and the Minister is in good condition and recovering at the hospital,” the statement said.

The ministry added that Zameer, who underwent the surgery in Singapore, is expected to return to office next week.

Questions were raised about the Minister’s absence after he did not attend President Mohamed Muizzu’s meeting with residents of Galolhu on Tuesday evening. President Muizzu is also scheduled to meet representatives of small and medium enterprises on Wednesday.

Zameer previously underwent angioplasty in July 2016 while serving as Minister of Tourism.
