The Maldives Police Service is investigating an allegation of sexual assault involving a coach attached to a sports association.
Police said on Monday that a case has been reported concerning a person responsible for training athletes at a sports association in the Maldives. No further details were disclosed.

The matter came to light after journalists sought clarification at a police media briefing. Police acknowledged that the allegation involves a senior coach from the Volleyball Association of Maldives, accused of sexually assaulting a player.
