Visually impaired voters invited to register for template voting in April polls
Voters who wish to use the template must register by 10.00pm on the 23rd of next month. Registration can be completed by calling 1414.
The Elections Commission has invited persons with visual impairments to register to vote using a ballot template in the local council and women’s development committee elections scheduled for 4 April.
In an announcement on Wednesday, the commission said the General Elections Act provides for voters with visual impairments to cast their ballots independently, without assistance from another person.
Voters who wish to use the template must register by 10.00pm on the 23rd of next month. Registration can be completed by calling 1414.
The commission said registration will be open daily from 9.00am to 10.00pm, except on Fridays, when it will be open from 3.00pm to 10.00pm.
The ballot template was developed in 2023 to allow voters with visual impairments to mark their ballot papers independently. It was first used in the 2023 presidential election.
The commission said the template was also used in previous presidential and parliamentary elections, with training provided to voters who requested to use the facility.
