A man has been arrested in Hulhumalé on suspicion of dealing in vapes, police said.
The suspect has been identified as Nuham Mohamed Shiyan, 25, of Whiterose, Malé.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the arrest was made during an operation conducted in Hulhumalé on Thursday. Police said a quantity of nano cartridges, vapes and pods, along with cash, was recovered from the suspect’s apartment.
The suspect was produced before the court for a remand hearing and was ordered to be held in custody for 15 days.
Police said further investigations into the case are ongoing.
The use and import of vapes were banned in Maldives on 15 December 2024. The law also provides for fines for violations related to the use, possession, and import of such products.
