Customs seizes vapes hidden in food packaging
Customs said a total of 1,108 vape cartridges and 27 vaping devices were taken into custody during the operation.
Maldives Customs Service has seized a shipment of vaping products concealed inside food packaging during an operation at Malé Commercial Harbour.
According to Customs, the items were confiscated during a special operation conducted on Sunday and Monday after officers suspected that a sea cargo shipment contained prohibited goods.
A detailed inspection of the cargo uncovered vape cartridges and vaping devices hidden inside potato chips cans and packets of chocolate powder.
Customs said a total of 1,108 vape cartridges and 27 vaping devices were taken into custody during the operation.
The authority stated that the case is under investigation.
The Maldives banned the import, sale and use of vaping products following amendments to the Tobacco Control Act in 2024. The prohibition came into effect in December that year.
Customs has not released further details regarding the shipment or any individuals connected to the case.
