Construction Minister Abdulla Muththalib has been summoned to Parliament to clarify whether projects promised to Addu have not been implemented due to a lack of cooperation from local councils and members of parliament.

The motion to summon the minister was submitted by independent MP Abdul Rahman, who represents the Meedhoo constituency. In his submission, Abdul Rahman sought clarification on the status of projects planned for Addu, including initiatives announced by President Mohamed Muizzu.

The questions submitted ask whether projects promised to Addu remain unimplemented and what steps councils and MPs can take to facilitate the commencement of those projects.

Abdul Rahman said the questions were raised following requests from residents during a public meeting held on Friday. He stated that the issues had been brought to Parliament to seek formal clarification.

He also said there were multiple sources of information regarding the projects, but noted that concerns had been raised about whether all pledged projects were being addressed by the government. He referred to previous remarks by President Muizzu questioning whether any project in his constituency had failed to proceed due to a lack of cooperation from councils and MPs.

According to Abdul Rahman, several projects in Addu remain pending. These include work on a power plant and the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) port, as well as dredging works planned for Meedhoo and the central port. He also said that some projects launched by President Muizzu in Addu have not progressed.
