Muththalib says land, flats to be handed over within govt term
The application process for 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats under the policy opened on Sunday.
Housing Minister Abdulla Muththalib said on Sunday that land plots and flats announced under the government’s Housing for All policy will be completed and handed over within the current administration’s term.
The application process for 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats under the policy opened on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the land plots allocated under the programme would be surveyed, registered, subdivided and handed over during the current term of the government. He also said the 7,900 flats announced represent projects for which funding has already been secured.
Muththalib said the government aims to complete the flats and make them ready for occupation. He noted that previous administrations had not completed housing projects and relocated residents into flats since 2008, and said the current government intended to address this.
According to the minister, the flats announced include housing projects financed through the Bank of Maldives, projects funded by the Government of India, and projects supported by Saudi funding.
Under the programme, 15,000 land plots will be allocated in the Greater Malé area and Rasmalé. A total of 7,900 flats will be allocated in the Greater Malé area.
The deadline for applications for land plots is 4 March, while applications for flats will close on 17 April. Applications for both land and flats must be submitted through the new housing portal.
