Schools to close after first week of Ramadan
The new academic year is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
Schools will operate only during the first week of Ramadan, according to the academic calendar released by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday.
The calendar states that schools will resume on 23 March, following the end of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holidays. The new academic year is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry, the first day of Ramadan is expected to fall on the 18th of next month. The day has been declared a public holiday, while the following day will also be observed as a school holiday.
Based on the academic calendar, schools will be open from 22 to 26 next month during Ramadan. Teacher professional development days have been scheduled for 1 to 5 March and on 8 March, during which schools will remain closed.
The final 10 days of Ramadan, from 9 to 19 March, have been designated as public holidays.
Eid al-Fitr is marked on Friday, 20 March. Schools will reopen on Monday, 23 March, with three days remaining in the Eid holiday period.
