Prior to the enactment of the media law, journalists had used the area to hold protests against the legislation.
The President’s Office on Sunday disclosed the cost incurred in constructing the Media Fenda space located in front of the President’s Office.
The disclosure was made in response to a request submitted under the Access to Information Act seeking details of the expenditure related to the structure.
According to the response, the President’s Office spent MVR 42,807.96 on the construction of the Media Fenda space.
The structure was installed in September last year on vacant land in front of the southern gate of the President’s Office. Prior to the enactment of the media law, journalists had used the area to hold protests against the legislation.
The venue was dismantled in October after the President’s Office said unauthorised journalists were using the space.
The President’s Office said the information provided related to the cost of constructing the facility and its subsequent removal.
The Media Fenda was removed after the Media Bill was passed.
