The Elections Commission on Wednesday extended the daily hours for submitting nomination papers for the April local council and women’s development committee elections.
In an announcement, the commission said the submission window for online applications has been increased by two hours each day. The extended hours apply from Wednesday until 1 February.
Under the revised schedule, nomination forms can be submitted during the following times:
-
8:30 am to 5:30 pm on all days except Fridays
-
3:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Fridays
The extension follows concerns raised by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party over the nomination deadline for the April 4 elections. The party has requested an additional 10 days beyond the initial 14-day period allocated for submitting candidature forms.
