Epstein docs reference Waheed's talks on Maldives resort projects
In addition, the emails include references to Waheed seeking support for publishing a book covering his time in office.
Former Maldivian president Mohamed Waheed has been accused on social media of seeking assistance from Jeffrey Epstein in relation to tourism development projects in the Maldives, following the release of a set of documents by the United States Department of Justice.
The documents, which include emails linked to Epstein, have circulated online in recent days. Some of the emails attributed to Waheed have been shared publicly and reference discussions on tourism projects.
According to the material being circulated, the emails include references to projects identified as Innahera and Fuggiri. In one email, Waheed is quoted as describing the Innahera project and seeking to discuss potential involvement. Another email refers to outcomes related to both the Fuggiri and Innahera projects.
The correspondence also refers to a proposal to develop Fuggiri for a specific market segment, with references to working with contacts in the Middle East and Russia for local management. In relation to Innahera, the emails mention a proposal from a Singapore-based party offering a minority stake to a local company, and suggest further discussions during a visit to the Maldives.
In addition, the emails include references to Waheed seeking support for publishing a book covering his time in office as vice-president and president of the Maldives, including assistance in securing funding or identifying a publisher in the United States.
No official response from Waheed was available at the time of publication. Authorities in the Maldives have not issued statements regarding the authenticity or implications of the documents.
