Maldives president to undertake official visit to Germany

President Muizzu’s visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany.

President Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Germany from 9 to 13 February, at the invitation of his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

During the visit, President Muizzu will engage in high-level official talks with President Steinmeier and other senior officials of the German government. The discussions will cover a range of issues of mutual interest to the Maldives and Germany and are expected to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries.

As part of the visit, President Muizzu will visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he will deliver a keynote address on the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation.

He is also scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the German Council on Foreign Relations, outlining the Maldives’ perspective on the role of the ocean in foreign policy.

The President will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers and business representatives. A business forum will also be held, bringing together delegates from both countries to explore collaborative investment opportunities in the Maldives.

President Muizzu’s visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formally established on 5 July 1966.
