Ibrahim Falah said on Friday that the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) will secure more than 80 per cent of the vote in the upcoming local council elections.
PNC parliamentary group leader Falah made the remarks at the launch of the campaign for the PNC’s mayoral candidate for HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, Ibrahim Hassan, along with council and women’s committee candidates, at an event held in Kulhudhuffushi.
Addressing supporters in Kulhudhuffushi, where the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has held a council majority for the past 17 years, Falah said development in the city has taken place under councils aligned with his party. He said voters should consider giving the PNC an opportunity to lead the council.
Falah said the upcoming council election is important for decisions related to development in islands and urban areas. He said the election will determine whether development efforts continue or remain unchanged.
He said the PNC is advancing policies shaped by younger members and has provided opportunities for younger leaders to take on leadership roles at city and island council levels, including in Kulhudhuffushi.
Falah also criticised the opposition MDP, saying its leadership has remained unchanged and that the party is losing support due to its policies. He said the MDP continues to follow approaches it has maintained since 2008.
Falah said he expects the PNC to secure a clear victory in the local council elections, adding that the party is aiming to win more than 80 per cent of the vote.
