The Local Government Ministry on Tuesday requested food service providers to arrange meals for tourists during the upcoming Ramadan period while observing religious practices in the Maldives.

A directive signed by Minister Adam Shareef Umar sets out rules on the conduct of tourists in residential areas during Ramadan. The ministry stated that catering services should be provided in a way that supports Islamic customs, religious unity and respect for Islam.

The directive also asks operators to ensure that tourists do not eat or drink in public view when meals are served in residential areas. Councils and service providers are encouraged to inform tourists about expected conduct in streets and public places during Ramadan.

The notice states that councils should give attention to these matters when arranging tourist services in residential communities.
