Veteran actor, director and producer Ahmed Nimal died on Thursday after suffering a stroke, hospital officials said.
Nimal was first admitted to ADK Hospital after the incident on 31 December. He was later transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was treated in the intensive care unit. He died on Thursday morning at IGMH.
According to family sources, Nimal suffered the stroke while riding his motorcycle on Sosan Magu, near ADK Hospital.
His funeral is scheduled to be held at the new cemetery after evening prayers on Thursday.
Nimal had a career spanning several decades in the Maldivian film industry. He worked as an actor and director, produced a number of films and wrote stories for several productions. He also appeared in a range of recent films.
He made his film debut in 1984 with Nufoozu. His notable works include Zalzala, Hiy Edhenee, Sababu, Raany, Niuma and Kanbulo.
Nimal received the National Award in 1991.
