Govt extends deadline for land and flat applications
The government has extended the deadline for applications for land and flats under its ‘Housing for All’ policy, the Ministry of Housing said.
The application process opened on 18 January. The ministry said the deadline for submitting applications has now been extended to 30 April.
Under the programme, a total of 15,000 land plots will be allocated in the Greater Malé area and Rasmale, while 7,900 flats will be allocated in the Greater Malé area. Applications can be submitted through the dedicated online portal.
According to the ministry, 15,000 plots of 1,250 square feet will be allocated to residents of Malé. These include 10,000 plots for Malé citizens, 3,000 plots for residents of other islands living in Malé, 500 plots for individuals deprived of land ownership due to disability, and 1,500 plots for households relocating due to narrow streets in Malé.
A total of 7,900 flats will be allocated under the flat allocation rules. Of these, 4,000 flats are reserved for Malé citizens and 1,500 flats for non-residents living in Malé. Other allocations include 100 flats for single parents caring for children under 18, 100 flats for persons with disabilities, 250 flats for newlyweds and young families, 50 flats for family-based taxi drivers registered in Malé, 200 flats for family-based tourism workers in Malé, 100 flats for family-based judiciary employees in Malé, and 100 flats for family-based fishermen in Malé.
The allocation also includes 50 flats for individuals deprived of land ownership due to disability and 500 flats for applicants who received flats under the Veshifahi Malé and Hiyaa projects but did not receive units in line with documentation. A further 50 flats are earmarked for families identified by the government as living in Malé without accommodation.
In addition, 100 flats will be allocated each to the police and the military, 200 flats to the civil service, and 100 flats to the correctional service.
The remaining 400 flats will be allocated to various state agencies and institutions, including the President’s Office, Parliament, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, Local Government Authority, Judicial Service Commission, Foreign Service, Attorney General’s Office, Elections Commission, Civil Service Commission, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Anti-Corruption Commission, Prosecutor General’s Office, Audit Office, Maldives Monetary Authority, Pension Office, National Integrity Commission, Media and Broadcasting Commission, Family Protection Authority, Arbitration Centre, Children’s Ombudsman Office, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Capital Market Development Authority, Employment Tribunal and Tax Appeal Tribunal.
