Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihsan has accused former state minister at the Housing Ministry Akram Kamaluddin and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) deputy chairman Ibrahim Waheed of filming his wife and children in public and sharing the footage on social media.

In a post on X, Ihsan shared CCTV footage showing Akram, Waheed and another individual standing on a street and recording something on a mobile phone.

The footage shows Waheed and another person speaking on the street before Akram approaches and joins the conversation. Akram is seen handing his phone to one of the individuals and later taking it back after a short recording. The CCTV footage does not show what was being filmed.

In his post, Ihsan alleged that the recording captured his wife and 10-year-old son while they were walking along the street. He said the video was later shared on social media by an unidentified account.

Ihsan said individuals who claim to support democracy and the rights of women and children were involved in the incident. He described the matter as an example of political conduct that he attributed to the MDP.

Akram Kamaluddin and Ibrahim Waheed could not be reached for comment.

Ihsan also shared a video of his family that had been posted from an anonymous account under the name Hassan Kursi. The video, filmed from behind, shows Ihsan’s wife crossing a road with two children. The footage was shared online with criticism alleging the use of security personnel to escort a child to a park and questioning the use of public funds.
