The government on Monday released revised eligibility criteria for priority categories under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme, introducing additional conditions for employees of state institutions and agencies allocated flats.

Under the revised criteria issued by the Ministry of Housing, employees receiving flats under designated priority categories must agree to continue their service for a period determined by their respective institutions.

Applications for flats and land plots under the scheme were opened on 28 December last year. The programme aims to provide housing to citizens aged 18 and above.

Under the Policy for Allocation of Flats to Residents of Malé, several priority categories were established, including allocations for employees of selected state institutions and agencies.

According to the ministry’s announcement, applicants under these categories must have established a family in Malé and must have completed at least one year of continuous full-time employment at their respective institution. In addition, recipients must agree to remain in service following the handover of the housing unit, in accordance with conditions set by their employer.

  • Judiciary staff: 100 flats

  • Maldives Police Service: 100 flats

  • Maldives National Defence Force: 100 flats

  • Civil Service employees: 200 flats

  • Maldives Correctional Service: 100 flats

The remaining 400 flats are designated for employees of 24 institutions, including the President’s Office, People’s Majlis Secretariat, Attorney General’s Office, Foreign Service, Judicial Service Commission, Elections Commission, Civil Service Commission, Human Rights Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Auditor General’s Office, Prosecutor General’s Office, Maldives Monetary Authority, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, Pension Office, National Integrity Commission, Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission, Family Protection Authority, National Disaster Management Authority, Office of the Children’s Ombudsperson, Employment Tribunal, Local Government Authority, Tax Appeal Tribunal, Civil Aviation Authority and Capital Market Development Authority.
