Police have decided not to investigate a complaint filed by the HDh. Hanimaadhoo Council regarding the allocation of land to residents of HDh. Hirimaradhoo who are being relocated to Hanimaadhoo.

The complaint was submitted following concerns raised over the allocation of land in Hanimaadhoo to the relocated community.

Police said on Tuesday that their review of the matter found that the issue relates to administrative arrangements between state agencies responsible for the relocation process.

According to police, no criminal offence was identified in connection with the matter.

Authorities said the parties involved have been advised to seek a civil legal solution.

The issue has also led to public response in Hanimaadhoo, including a petition opposing the allocation of land to residents from Hirimaradhoo.

The government decided in February to relocate the population of Hirimaradhoo, which has fewer than 300 residents, to Hanimaadhoo. Hirimaradhoo has since been removed from the list of inhabited islands.

President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that housing for the relocated residents will be completed and handed over within a period of up to six years.
