The Elections Commission (EC) has temporarily relocated its operations to the Social Centre following a fire at a warehouse in Malé on Wednesday night and granted an additional day for political parties and candidates to sign the final register of eligible voters.

The fire occurred at a warehouse located next to the election centre, affecting operations and causing a delay in the signing process.

The EC said on Thursday that after the relocation, the signing of the voters’ list resumed at 10:00am at the Social Centre.

“To provide a further opportunity for signing the list following last night’s incident, arrangements have been made to continue the signing process at the Social Centre on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00am to 1:00pm,” the Commission said.

The EC added that the signing process will also continue on Thursday at the Social Centre as scheduled, from 10:00am to 3:00pm and from 9:30pm to 12:00am.

The Commission said that despite the fire near the election centre, work is proceeding in line with the election schedule.
