The People’s National Congress (PNC) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held marches in Malé to mark the end of their campaigns. Similar events took place in islands across the Maldives, while some locations concluded activities with smaller gatherings at party offices.
In Malé, senior figures from both parties attended the final events. The PNC march included President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the First Lady and senior government officials. The MDP event was attended by former President Mohamed Nasheed, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and other party members.
Speaking at Rasfannu after the PNC march, President Muizzu called on voters to support his party’s candidates and the proposal to hold the two elections on the same day.
He stated that conducting the elections together would affect how candidates campaign during parliamentary elections and could influence the composition of the legislature.
The MDP march began at 4:00 PM from the Artificial Beach area. The PNC march started at 3:45 PM from its main hub near the same area and proceeded along Majeedhee Magu before ending at Rasfannu.
Candidates contesting seats in the Malé area from both parties took part in the events. Supporters attended the rallies carrying banners and placards.
Voting for the elections and the referendum is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
