Azim secures majority in early Malé mayoral results
Moosa Ali Jaleel is in second place with 28.4 per cent, or about 3,000 votes.
Provisional results indicate that Malé City Mayor Adam Azim has retained his seat following Saturday’s vote.
Four candidates contested for the position. They include Azim, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP); Moosa Ali Jaleel of the People’s National Congress (PNC); Ismail Zariyand, contesting as an independent candidate with the endorsement of former President Abdulla Yameen; and Abdulla Mahzoom Maajidh of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
According to interim results from ballot boxes counted so far, Azim has secured 46 per cent of the vote, amounting to around 4,000 votes.
Moosa Ali Jaleel is in second place with 28.4 per cent, or about 3,000 votes.
Ismail Zariyand has received 21.4 per cent of the vote, representing approximately 2,000 votes.
Abdulla Mahzoom Maajidh has obtained 3.4 per cent, or about 100 votes.
The results remain provisional pending the completion of the count.
