Azim commits to city plans following election result
Azim secured a second term with 45 per cent of the total votes cast, contesting against four other candidates.
Malé City Mayor Adam Azim has said his re-election reflects the support of voters in the capital.
According to provisional results from Saturday’s Local Council Elections, Azim secured a second term with 45 per cent of the total votes cast, contesting against four other candidates.
In a post on social media, Azim thanked voters and said he would continue to engage with residents in carrying out his plans for the city.
“I offer my sincere thanks to all the citizens of Malé City, and especially to those who placed their confidence in me through their votes,” he said.
He stated that his approach would include consultation with residents in implementing policies and initiatives.
While the People’s National Congress (PNC) holds a majority in the Malé City Council, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured all but one seat in the by-elections. The Vilimalé constituency was the only seat not won by the MDP.
The results remain provisional pending completion of the count.
