The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast rainfall across parts of the Maldives starting Monday.

The forecast follows a period of high temperatures recorded across the northern and central atolls since late March.

According to the Met Office, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in parts of the southern atolls on Sunday.

Rainfall is forecast across the southern and central atolls on Monday and Tuesday. By Thursday, rainfall is expected to be limited to the southern region.

A Met Office official said the northern atolls may not receive direct rainfall but could experience a reduction in temperatures.

“While the northern atolls may not experience direct rainfall, we anticipate a slight dip in the current temperatures,” the official said.

The Met Office said the current season of high temperatures is expected to continue, with conditions likely to persist through the end of April despite periods of rain.

Data shows that the ‘feels-like’ temperature in the Malé region reached 37°C on Saturday. Similar levels have been recorded in the northern atolls since late March.
