The changes follow the resignation of ten ministers on Tuesday. According to the President’s Office, the resignations were made to allow changes in the administration.
Following the restructuring, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has merged several ministries, reducing the number of cabinet posts to 15.
With the appointment of the defence minister, 13 ministers have now taken their oaths of office.
Heena Waleed was appointed Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage. Ali Shareef was appointed Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy. Iruthisham Adam was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Geela Ali was appointed Minister of Health, Family and Welfare. Moosa Zameer was appointed Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises. Ali Ihusaan was appointed Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology. Dr Ismail Shafeeu was appointed Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development. Mohamed Saeed was appointed Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade. Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed was appointed Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowment. Mohamed Ameen was appointed Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Dr Abdulla Muththalib was appointed Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development. Abdulla Rafiu was appointed Minister of Youth, Empowerment and Fitness. Ahmed Shiyam was appointed Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture.
