Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has denied reports that police emergency lines were contacted prior to the death of a student at the Maldives National University dormitory, while confirming that police had prior communication with the individual.
The Minister made the remarks on Thursday at a press conference addressing the death of an 18-year-old student earlier this week.
He rejected claims circulating on social media that the student had made repeated phone calls to the police or the Family and Child Protection Department (FCPD).
“That is false. There is no record of this individual or her number calling any police or government emergency lines. We have confirmed that no calls were placed to either 911 or the FCPD,” Ihusaan said.
However, the Minister confirmed that the student had been in contact with police through messages prior to the incident.
