A 17-year-old has died while receiving treatment for dengue fever, health authorities have confirmed.

The patient was admitted to Muli Regional Hospital on Tuesday after developing a fever. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) stated that the cause of death was complications related to dengue.

The case follows another death reported two weeks ago, involving a 23-year-old who died in Malé after being transferred for treatment.

The HPA reported an increase in dengue cases across the Maldives and has called for joint action by state institutions, local councils, private entities, non-governmental organisations, and the public.

The agency advised measures to reduce the spread of the disease, including removing mosquito breeding sites, preventing mosquito bites, and seeking medical care when symptoms appear.

According to HPA data, 535 dengue cases were recorded last month. During the same period last year, 60 cases were reported.
