Mohamed Ibrahim has raised concerns over the closure of daycare centres operated by state-owned enterprises and has requested clarification on whether the facilities will reopen.
In a letter to Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the MP said the centres were previously run by Maldives Ports Limited, Housing Development Corporation and STELCO.
He noted that the centres provided childcare services for employees during working hours and included facilities for prayer, education and recreational activities.
Mohamed Ibrahim referred to the dates on which the centres were opened and later closed, stating that employees now face challenges following the suspension of services.
He said the centres supported working parents and that their closure without prior notice had affected families who relied on them.
The MP requested the People’s Majlis to seek clarification from the relevant authorities on the reasons for the closures.
He also asked whether there are plans to resume services and, if so, when the centres are expected to reopen.
