President Mohamed Muizzu said on Thursday night that documentaries produced based on allegations against him would not affect him and described such actions as a source of spiritual reward.

The remarks come amid legal proceedings involving senior staff of Adhadhu following the release of a documentary containing allegations against the President.

Two journalists from the outlet were also sentenced to prison after being accused of violating a Criminal Court order prohibiting discussion of the documentary.

Speaking at a gathering held at the headquarters of the People's National Congress, Muizzu said critics were producing documentaries because they lacked grounds to challenge the government’s policies and projects.

“They are attempting to tarnish my reputation as a result,” the President said.

Muizzu also referred to a conversation he said he had with a group of young people earlier in the day regarding criticism directed at him.

According to the President, he remains calm because he is confident in his conduct and relies on prayer and guidance from Allah.

He said false allegations and documentaries would not alter his principles or actions.

“They may fabricate numerous falsehoods and produce various documentaries. I am genuinely pleased by these efforts and offer my gratitude to Allah,” he said.

The President further stated that Islamic teachings emphasise patience during periods of slander and criticism.

“Islam accords high merit to patience during times of defamation; it is a source of immense spiritual reward,” he said.

Muizzu added that he believed a documentary based on factual information would not damage his reputation and claimed that critics were relying on falsehoods in their attempts to target him.
