President reaffirms support for search operation for divers
According to the Maldives National Defence Force, one body has so far been recovered.

President Mohamed Muizzu on Friday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the ongoing search and rescue operation for four Italian divers missing in Vaavu Atoll.
The divers were reported missing at around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday after failing to resurface during a diving excursion in the atoll.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force, one body has so far been recovered.
The MNDF said the deceased tourist was found inside an underwater cave, while search operations for the remaining four individuals continue.
President Muizzu travelled to the area on Friday to observe the search efforts and meet with authorities and operational teams involved in the mission.
In a statement, the President’s Office said the President received a briefing on the progress of the operation and expressed support to personnel involved in the search.
The President also assured that the government would continue to provide all necessary assistance and cooperation to support the operation.
Earlier, Muizzu sent a message of condolence to Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the people of Italy following the incident.
