Police have arrested two men accused of assisting a detainee to escape from police custody.
According to court remand orders issued on Wednesday, the detainee who escaped was being held as part of an investigation by the Police Family and Gender Affairs Department. No further details of that investigation have been disclosed.
The two suspects arrested are:

Ahmed Uwais, 22, of H. Laamiyaa, Malé.

Mohamed Anoof, 25, of Ihaaz, Noonu Velidhoo.
Both men were brought before the court, which ordered that they be remanded in custody for 15 days pending further investigation.
The remand order states that investigators presented sufficient evidence to establish reasonable grounds to suspect the pair of involvement in the alleged offence.
According to the court, CCTV footage of the incident has also been submitted as evidence.
The order further states that Uwais has a previous criminal record.
Both suspects requested alternatives to custodial detention, but the court ordered that they remain in custody for 15 days.
