Zaeema Mohamed of the Maldivian Democratic Party has been elected Vice President of the Alif Dhaal Mahibadhoo Island Council following eight rounds of voting.
The newly elected council members for the current term were sworn into office on Sunday.
However, the appointment of the council’s vice president was delayed after repeated tied votes during the inaugural session.
According to the first round of voting:

Zaeema Mohamed received two votes

Mohamed Maumoon of the People's National Congress received two votes

Bunyameen Hassan received one vote
The following six rounds of voting also ended without a result, with Zaeema and Maumoon each receiving two votes while one ballot was declared invalid.
