WDC presidents’ salaries reduced again after public backlash
The figures drew criticism after it was noted that the proposed salaries exceeded those of local council presidents and councillors.
The salaries of Presidents of Women's Development Committees have been revised downward again following public debate over the recently announced pay structure.
The revised salary framework was initially published by the National Pay Commission last Wednesday.
Under the original structure, monthly salaries were set at:
-
MVR 41,500 for City WDC Presidents
-
MVR 21,000 for Island WDC Presidents
The figures drew criticism after it was noted that the proposed salaries exceeded those of local council presidents and councillors.
Following the initial response, the salary for City WDC Presidents was reduced to MVR 33,000, while the salary for Island WDC Presidents remained unchanged.
A further amendment issued on Thursday introduced additional reductions to both categories.
Under the latest revision, the salaries are now set at:
-
MVR 20,000 for City WDC Presidents
-
MVR 15,000 for Island WDC Presidents
The salaries of vice presidents and committee members remain unchanged.
According to the current structure:
-
City WDC Vice Presidents receive MVR 7,000
-
City WDC Members receive MVR 6,000
-
Island WDC Vice Presidents receive MVR 6,000
-
Island WDC Members receive MVR 5,000
During the previous council term, City WDC Presidents received MVR 7,000 per month, while Island WDC Presidents received MVR 6,000.
